October Vacation in Yosemite | Yosemite, California

With the kids back in school and the start of cooler temperatures, October is a perfect time to plan a trip to California’s Yosemite National Park. Drive through the 1,200-acre park and take in the abundance of deep valleys, cascading waterfalls and scenic vistas. The best way to experience Yosemite is to get out in nature and enjoy yourself.

You don’t need any special gear for most of Yosemite’s hiking trails. Easy nature loops and more moderate trails wind through wilderness areas and sequoia groves. Many routes finish with a waterfall view, so don’t forget your camera!

Fishing, horseback riding, bird watching and biking are other outdoor activities you can try in Yosemite. If you really want to get off the beaten path, go on a short backpacking trip. Stay overnight at one of the park’s many campgrounds to make the most of your trip.

As an alternative to camping, consider a nearby hotel. The Best Western PLUS Sonora Oaks Hotel & Conference Center is located at the “front door” of Yosemite National Park, at the crossroads of Highways 49, 108 and 120. On-site you’ll find an outdoor pool and hot tub (perfect for soothing sore muscles after a Yosemite hike!) and a great restaurant.
