As soon as Catalina Island comes into view, you’ll notice the unbelievably clear blue water, rugged cliffs, and colorful houses stacked on the hillside. Catalina is equal parts relaxation and adventure – you can sip a cocktail and read a good book on the beach, or dive into activities like snorkeling and parasailing. No trip to Catalina is complete without a least a few thrills, so pack in as much adventure as you can during your time on the island.
Hotel Vista Del Mar
Hotel Vista Del Mar is just steps away from the beautiful waters of Catalina Island. Their Mediterranean-inspired rooms are elegantly decorated and feature stunning views of the ocean and the harbor. Hotel Vista Del Mar is centrally located close to many activities, and they offer fun amenities like nighttime milk and cookies. Go on an adventure with the Zip Line Adventure Package, which includes round-trip boat transportation to Catalina Island, a mid-week stay, and a Zip Line Eco Tour.
Zip Line Eco Tour
Glide over treetops while admiring an ocean view on Catalina’s Zip Line Eco Tour. You’ll zip down 5 separate lines of all different lengths above a canyon in the hills of Catalina. Some lines are short and steep while others are long and linear, covering about 3/4ths of a mile total. In between lines, guides will teach you about the history and wildlife of the island.
The Pancake Cottage
With an itinerary so full of adventures, you’ll need a few hearty meals. There’s no better place than The Pancake Cottage, a casual diner with a well-rounded menu that goes well beyond pancakes. Start your day off with some banana and chocolate chip pancakes, or stop in for lunch to refuel with their “Monte Cristo,” a French toast sandwich with melted jack cheese, ham, and turkey.
Explore Catalina By Golf Cart
Most of Catalina’s restaurants and shops are clustered around the shore. To see more of the island, rent a golf cart for a few hours! Cars are restricted on the island, so many people use golf carts to get around. When you rent a cart, you’ll be able to venture up into the hills and see panoramic views of the town and the ocean. On your loop, you’ll drive out along the cliffs and ascend into the hills where you can choose to check out the Wrigley Memorial & Botanic Garden. Stop to watch the zip liners along the way, head down to the pristine Descanso Beach Club, and then circle back into the main part of town. The golf carts are really the best way to see Catalina, not to mention they’re fun to drive!
The Catalina Casino was built in glamorous Art Deco style in 1929. It’s remained an iconic landmark on Catalina, reflecting the island’s Old Hollywood past. On the lower level, the Avalon Theatre shows movies each night, but you’ll need to take a tour to see the entire casino. The Casino Walking Tour will show you Art Deco murals, the original pipe organ, a film on the building’s history, the famous Casino Ballroom and the Romance Promenade, where you’ll get incredible views of the ocean. For an even more intimate experience, choose the Behind the Scenes Tour, and you’ll see dressing rooms, green rooms, and editing rooms that were used by famous entertainers and Hollywood greats such as Errol Flynn and Cary Grant.
