We stayed 6 nights in this beautiful lodge in the Gila room. We went out two days with the naturalist who works on site, hiking on the lodge grounds and on another N.C. property on the Mimbres. We did other hikes in the area on our own. This location was excellent for the variety of activities we did, from hiking to history to a very little bit of shopping. Staff were helpful in finding in-town resources, and they are armed with maps for you because Silver City is not your typical town layout. We spent part of most days on our patio, feet up, reading and watching birds. I didn't want to leave. We ate the breakfast provided every morning. We ate supper there once; it was good, but we just didn't want to be tied to the 6 p.m. schedule. You can oder a lunch-to-go a day ahead, and we did that for a day when we were going to be on the trail at noon. Excellent lodging!
